It seems to me that there are a lot of people who are not in full agreement about this holiday. It has conjured up mixed emotions and beliefs.
Who am I? I’m just an American citizen who have learned about the clean version of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving Day from public school education.
Why is there a debate on the holiday? North America was heavily populated with Native Americans. And the question did occur to me about the decreased population of the Native Americans. So the issue or the story was circumventing as I started to understand the dilemma.
I still remember the quote from elementary school, “1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue”. It didn’t really matter to me reciting those words, I was just doing what I was told. Now it all makes sense.
I am being bias and will agree to Indigenous People Day, because there were brutish and heinous acts done to the original owners.
